The first annual Soapbox Derby will be held Monday night, June 15.  Montevideo Fiesta and Pheasants Forever are teaming up to bring this new event to our week long Fiesta Days celebration.  There are two reasons we are so excited about this.  First, you will build a derby car, simple is ok, with your child.  That time together is what makes family and living rural special.  Second, you will bring forth your car and demo them as part of our town celebration.

This is NOT a high pressure event.  Family, rural, community, and fun.

There are many web pages for Soapbox Derby Car build instructions.  Here is one to get you started: https://www.instructables.com/Soap-Box-Derby-Car-Overview/

Supply Options

Wheels can be purchased at Runnings, Harbor Freight, and other locations.  Several on-line options allow for little $ to big $ wheels.  In my youth we pulled wheels off of wagons, lawn mowers and dollies.

Mind Your Business (MYB) will have cut length rod for sale for $5 a set per the above published plans, you cross drill the holes to cotter pin on your wheels.  These rods fit 1/2 inch OR 5/8 inch diameter bearings on the wheels.  You need to match your wheels if getting the axle rods from MYB.

Builders FirstSource in Smith Edition Montevideo will have pre-cut kits available for sale, or just use 2x4 or 2x6 lumber and craft your own design.  Have fun and see you at the time trials.
